Market review of
the SGE in March 2004
In
March, the Shanghai Gold Exchange traded 31,767 kilograms of gold, up 89.1 per
cent year-on-year. Platinum traded in the Exchange was 1,330 kilograms. The
total trading value soared by 45.6 per cent to 3.774 billion yuan. Among that,
the average daily trading volume for gold hit a record high of 1,381.18
kilograms, up 26.88 per cent from the previous month. As for platinum, the
average daily turnover rose by 11.97 per cent to 57.83 kilograms.
With
international gold rebounding from terrorist accidents, Au99.95 in the SGE
opened the month at 107.1 yuan per gram, and closed it at 112.31 yuan, up 5.09
per cent. Pt99.95 opened the month at 245.12 yuan, and had a month-close of
246.17 yuan, up 3.23 per cent.
After
silence for one month, the pilot trading of Au (T+5) witnessed tentative deals
from mid-March. Its turnover for March was 603 kilograms, 2 per cent of the
total volume of gold trading.
The
clients of the SGE reached 567 with 31 new entrants.
