MARKETREVIEW OF THE SHANGHAI GOLD EXCHANGE IN FEBRUARY 2004

 

 

Within the 20 trading days in February, the Shanghai Gold Exchange recorded a total trading value of 2.592 billion yuan, up 14.22 per cent from the previous month. Among that, gold traded stood at 21,749 kilograms, with a value of 2.355 billion yuan. The average daily trading volume for gold was 1,088.5 kilograms. As for platinum, with an average daily turnover of 51.65 kilograms, it secured a trading volume of 1,033 kilograms valued at 236 million yuan.

 

Opening the month at 108.15 yuan, Au99.95 closed the month at 106.87, down 0.96 per cent. The weighted average price was 108.29 yuan, 3.01 yuan weaker than the previous month. Pt99.95 opened the month at 228.00 yuan, and closed at 238.47 yuan, up 4.68 per cent. Its weighted average price was 228.88 yuan, up 0.35 yuan from the previous month.

 

As compared with the previous month, the clearing volume of gold increased by 31.19 per cent to 14,474 kilograms, while that for platinum was 1,105 kilograms in February, climbing by 46.12 per cent.

 

The trial principal transaction of Au (T+5) since February 18 witnessed a slim turnover of 14 kilograms in February.

 

The clients in the SGE reached 536 with 33 new entrants.
